- Finlay Donovan Is Killing It

Finlay Donovan Is Killing It

by Elle Cosimano

This book was unputdownable.

Finlay is a struggling, single mom, who is a suspense novelist and is drowning in debt. Tired of all the bills that are piling up on the front porch and her husband’s threat, she is meeting her agent at Panera to talk about her next book. While she is sharing the plot of her next book, she receives a job offer from a random customer. This is when she finds herself investigating a real-life crime!!!!

Who knew real life crime could be so much fun.

The main character was amazing, funny, and amiable. I would never do what she did in the story, but I really liked her.

A fun, fast-paced mystery. I don’t remember laughing so much reading a book and the anxiety when Finlay got herself into more troubles as she moved from one situation to another.

The storyline is flawless, the characters are smartly chosen and the dynamo duo in between Finlay and Vero is remarkable.

I can’t wait to read the next book.

But she has to make an important decision. Should she stay with Tatum ignoring his singing career or should she leave Tatum and let him announce that he is back with his Ex to save his career.⁣
 ⁣
Coffee Girl was a fun and fast-paced story, characters are easy to connect with. I enjoyed the exciting and funny storyline. My favorite character was TJ. I loved him and I think we all need a TJ in our life.⁣

I needed a break from serious books and this book was a great choice, A beautifully written story about friendship, family, love, and difficult choices in life.⁣

- To Tell You the Truth

To Tell You the Truth

by Gilly Macmillan

Lucy is our main character, a thriller author with a dark past. Her brother went missing when she took him out in the woods when she was 9 years old. Dan, her husband, goes missing right after he buys a house in her old neighborhood. Lucy is reliving that experience of being in that neighborhood and with Dan’s missing. But what she finds difficult is that she can’t trust her memory to remember what really happened when Teddy went missing and now with her past uncovered, the police are questioning if she is responsible for Dan's disappearing.

My thought:

I enjoyed telling the truth. the story starts slowly but then it builds up until Dan goes missing and the twists and tensions start.

I was able to connect with Lucy but knowing she has an imaginary friend, Eliza, was a bit annoying.

It was a fast-paced suspenseful read with exciting twists. I just think the ending could have been better.

Overall, I liked the story. my rating is 3/5 rounded to 4 stars.

Lost In Translation

Lost In Translation

by Audrey Davis

This was my first book by Audrey Davis, and I loved it.

This is a story about Charlotte Egerton life. The beginning was written so beautifully that I just couldn’t stop reading. Charlotte is an amazing woman, I love her mindset, her attitude towards life and how she loved her children.

Charlotte and her family have moved to Switzerland because of her husband’s job. She was never happy about this move and was constantly thinking if this move would be a good choice for her family and mostly her sons. She is not sure if she can adapt to their new life, yet she is hoping that this moves her improve her relationship with her husband.

Dome (her husband) was always busy with his work and it was as if he separate and secretive life. He showed no kindness and empathy towards Charlotte most of the time. And I was constantly thinking why she fell in love with him in the first place.

The choice of characters is genuine, I really liked how the authentic writing style made me constantly emotional.

I liked the twists in this story, I doubted and hated Dom the whole time and at times I was thinking what I would do if I was in Charlotte’s situation, her relationship with Dom was not getting any better, and there was Jurgen…..

The ending is emotional, and I like how charlotte is becoming more confident and has a voice about what she wants.

This is a fast and fun book to read, I appreciated how the author penned details about Switzerland.

If you like a story about family, love, and all life’s ups and downs this would be a good read.

Many thanks to “ A Quintillion Reads” friends and Audrey Davis .

- A Solitude of Wolverines:

A Solitude of Wolverines

by Alice Henderson

This is the first book in the Alex Carter mystery series. The story is set in Montana, except for the opening scene that took place in Boston when Alex followed her boyfriend to Boston.

As a wildlife biologist, Dr. Alex Carter accepts a job to study wolverines in Montana. This happened during the time that Alex and her boyfriend were taking a break in their relationship thus she accepts the opportunity and immediately moves to Montana. But she was not welcomed by the locals and troubles start almost as soon as she arrives and intensified quickly

The descriptions in this book were very well penned and deceptive, to the point that the readers think they are doing the research themselves. The story was captivating, shocking at point,s and intense. Alex has a very amiable character; she is strong and determined. And I always enjoy reading books with strong female characters.

I recommend it to those who enjoy suspense novels.

Masque of Honor⁣

by Sharon Virts ⁣

Masque of Honor based on historical events of the 1819 Mason-McCarty duel.⁣
It starts with family trees; it was so exciting to go over the names. Armistead and Jack are descendants of George Mason IV. They both are trying to achieve respect and love on their own, but they end up in the dueling ground. Through the story, you get to know each man and their family. ⁣

I really liked how the writing and detailed description pulled me into the era and made me feel I was there with all the characters and experiencing the same struggles. ⁣

The well-written storyline made the book captivating. The details were perfectly portrayed, and the choice of characters were brilliant. If you are a fan of history, then this is the book for you.⁣
There are different parts of the story that moves slowly but that is part of reading history, I guess. this book did not disappoint me. ⁣

- Secret Santa⁣

 ⁣

Secret Santa⁣

by Andrew Shaffer ⁣

This book was exactly what I needed for Christmas, a holiday horror story set in the '80s.⁣

Lussi Meyer and her friends have all been let go from their job at a big publishing company right before the holidays.⁣

Lussi is talking to Xavier Blackwood owner of the Blackwood-Patterson, who is turning her down right before he dies her in her arms!!!⁣

Xavier's son hires Lussi, not knowing his father turned her down. More into the story the situation of Xavier's death and how it ties back to Lussi, get complicated.⁣

This was a fast and hilarious read. If you are a horror fan then it's a perfect holiday read.⁣

- Hillbilly Elegy

Hillbilly Elegy
By J.D. Vance

I read this book on the 24th but I still don’t know how to write a review about it.
Reading Vance’s story, I found it extremely touching. The stories of his upbringing are astonishing and eye-opening.

His childhood life was far from ideal and the more we read about his past the more we understand him as who he is today.

The story is set in suburban Ohio where many Hillbillies have relocated for blue-collar jobs. It is about a boy growing up and raised by a family with a “Hillbilly” background. He shares his opinion about his upbringing and the struggles he had to overcome his family.

If you are interested in a provoking book about growing up in a lower-middle clad suburbia over the past 40 years, then this is the book you should read. And anyone who is interested in reading memoirs would love this book.

I can’t wait to watch the movie next.

- The Woman In The Park

The Woman in the Park

by Teresa Sorkin and Tullan Holmqvist

Sara, a stay-at-home mom, believes her husband is having an affair. She is going through a very unhappy marriage and her children are attending school thus she feels lonely all the time.

Then one day when she is spending time reading in the central park, she meets Lawrence, a stranger she falls in love with. They both share interests, he shares his feelings with, and Sarah finds happiness with him and they continue meeting at the park until she becomes a prime suspect when a woman goes missing in the same park, the police show up at her house and Lawrence is nowhere to find.

Her husband and her therapist both doubt her, and she has no other option other than finding a way on her own to prove she is not guilty.

This was a really fast book for me, I have to say if you are a thriller lover this one is going to be hard to put down.

The story is well written and intriguing, it’s a psychological thriller full of twists and surprises. The story has two main parts, Abstract, and Reality. The second part is through Sarah’s POV.

I really liked that the story was set in different realities and I kept having doubts about what was real and what was only happening in Sarah’s mind.
