- Flawed

Flawed
by Lym Cruz

six years ago, Melissa moved to a new country in order to forget her past and start a new life. She has worked hard for her new life and forget the past and is graduating soon. But when she meets Andrew her fear of her past returns.

The mysterious and shadowy start on this book made it made it very interesting and intense.at the same time first few pages may be slow for some readers.

At the beginning the situation between Andrew and Melissa was a bit dramatic. But a bit more into the story the steamy chemistry between these two gets more noticeable.
As their relationship evolves, they seem to be move into a healthier relationship and yet with every problem the relationship is being hit hard since they don’t know how to handle the problems properly. As the story continues and the past comes back to light it adds more to the story. Which makes the reader want to get more involved with the story.

The author is kept the chapters short with scarce information to satisfy your curiosity. And for this, the book turns into a page turner. The story was plotted perfectly yet it starts very slow, a slow paced rocky romance, and towards the end of the book it speeds up and grows into a thriller and Mystery.

Many thanks to A Quintillion Reads and the author for the ARC.

-Vox

Vox
by Christina Dalcher

This book was on my tbr list for a long time and there are many mixed reviews on this one.
Dr. Jean McClellan a linguistic specialist, lives in a society where women can only speak a hundred words a day. Jean is a mother of four, eleven-year-old twin boys, a fifteen- year -old son, and a six-year-old daughter  As an scientist she know how important it is for children to use language and as a mother of a 6 year old girl she is now scared.

Patrick, her husband. a socialist advisor to the president, has at times tapped on the counter reminding her of the word limit. All women are required to wear a wristband that will count their words and will reset at midnight.
Going over 100 words has a painful outcome and using other method of communications is something they haven’t tried not knowing what the consequences are.

But now Jean’s professional services is required. She’s been called to help the president's brother who had an accident and is currently unable to use language.

Vox is very much in line with Stepford Wives and The Handmaid’s Tale and I truly believe that in so many countries around the world similar situation did and do exist.

It is w thought provoking, very well-written and fast paced book. I was a bit confused towards the end though with so many different plot twists. I don’t agree that these situations are impossible, and I don’t agree that author is pointing at any specific group of people.

-The Worst Best Man

The Worst Best Man
by Mia Sosa

Lina who was left at the alter by her fiancé Andrew. She got the news through Andrew’s younger brother, Max. He received the title of the worst best man, when showed Andrews Mysterious text message stating Max is to blame for his Change of mind.

It’s now three years later and Lina is a successful and ambitious wedding planner. As a part of a lucrative business venture Lina reconnects with both Andrew and Max. She needs this job desperately and Max is going to be her partner on this project.

This is when enemies turn into lovers, the romance starts, and Lina and Max get together. The story went back and forth on Max and Lina. Each scene is described separately from each person’s perspective.

Max is in competition with his brother. It seems like he has always lived in his brother’s shadow and he thinks this is the time to prove himself. And Max has to decide if the fact that he is falling for his brother’s ex-fiancé, is going to affect his plan for making name for himself.

I enjoyed most of the humor, but in some instances, it fell flat. It is an ordinal romance and I really didn’t find anything very different or special.

It is a very easy read and funny to some extent. If you like a good mood book this would a good choice. The book starts on a high note with humor, but as it moves along it got caught in unnecessary detail.

On the things I didn’t like about this book is the dialog, some were unnatural and stilted. While reading, different plots/sets reminded me of similar stories and that is why I mentioned there was nothing special about the story. I wished there was more interaction between Max and Andrew as most of the story is around Lina and her family.

Many thanks to NetGalley and HarperCollins Publishers for the ARC.

-Lock Every Door

Lock Every Door
by Riley Sager

This book is about Jules who is hired to take care of an apartment which the residents are very rich, private and quirky.
So many people believe this building is haunted considering its shady past.
The apartment has its own rules. no nights away from the apartment, no visitors or posts on Social Media!!??AND no talking with the residents!!

And I was:  RUN, GIRL, RUN!!! After chapter 27 till the end :)
It is definitely one of my favorite thrillers of 2019 and I also like to add this quote:

“Never take anything you haven’t earned, my father used to say. You always end up paying for it one way or another.”

-The Family Upstairs

The Family Upstairs
by Lisa Jewell

For me it was more like a Drama than a thriller. I really like Twisted thrillers, yet I found this book a bit confusing.

Its Libby Jones’s twenty fifth birthday and she is receiving a letter that she has been waiting for her entire life, a letter that will reveal who she is. But one thing she doesn’t know is that others are also waiting for this moment.

The story is told from three viewpoint the first one is Libby, who is working in a company that sells kitchens. She was adopted when she was a young baby and now with this letter on her twenty fifth birthday, she finds out that she has inherited a mansion worth thousands of pounds in Chelsea, England and has to go to the law office and claim it.

The second one is Lucy who Marco and Sally’s mom and is single. Lucy earns her family’s living by playing her fiddle and just when she is so busy thinking how to provide money and take care of her children, she has to join her siblings and meet the girl who inherits her family home.

Lastly there is Henry whose family were the first owners of the mansion in Chelsea. Henry went through a lot seeing his family and his house devastating after David Thomson came along with his family and stayed there.

It was not an anticipated novel for me and until the closing chapter I had no idea what was going on.

-To Kill a Mocking Girl

To Kill a Mocking Girl
A Bookbinding Mystery
by Harper Kincaid

A small-town girl Quinn Cain who has been teaching English abroad for 3 years returns home to Vienna, Virginia, helping her parents at their bookstore.

Quinn is very happy to be home specially when his brother Bash also returns to Vienna and tells her he wants to stay there and start his own family.
Meanwhile Quinn come across Tricia, a beautiful real estate agent working together with her twin sister.
Tricia is now engaged to Scott, Quinn’s ex fiancé.
On the same day Quinn come across Scott at her favorite diner. And on the same day after midnight she finds out that Tricia is dead. This is where the story begins.

To kill a mocking girl is an easy read and a romance thriller if that genre even exists. :) The characters are well chosen, and it is paced nicely. If you are looking for a cozy mystery this is definitely what you will enjoy.
I can't wait to read more of this series.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Crooked Lane Books for the ARC.

-Faker

Faker
By Sarah Smith

Some Books are written to make you feel good, they change your mood and make you happy.
Faker by Sarah Smith #AuthorSarahs is one of these feel good books.

Faker is a romantic comedy. a contemporary romance very much like the Hating Game. It’s about Emmie (our main character) who is working at a power tool company that is a male dominate environment.

She has a co-worker called Tate. He seems to hate Emmie; he takes every chance to be rude to her and ignore her and Emmie gives it right back to him.

They are being assigned to work on a project together and it turns out to be a disaster. They keep criticizing each other and sometimes Tate lets his guard down and this is what confuses Emmie, she cant figure out what his true feelings are.

And when they get to the point to be girlfriend and boyfriend, Emmie caught Tate kissing his Ex-girlfriend at a reunion party.

Faker is a funny and fast read. If you are a fan of contemporary romance, you will adore this book. It is a combination of fun, love and steam.
